Neva Cables Ltd. was established in 1992 by Nokia Cables (subsidiary of Nokia holding -
51% of shares) and Leningrad City Telephone
Network (49% of shares), when the market incurred a strong deficit of
telecommunication cables. There are two shareholders since the beginning of 2:
Draka Comteq (75% of shares) and Telecom Invest Production (25% of
shares)
In 1993 the construction of a cable production workshop was
finished in the territory of LCTN stocks located in the industrial area of
Parnas. During the plant construction environmental issues were given particular
attention. All the equipment and technology were provided by NOKIA holding.
Later, an administrative building with a conference hall and recreational area
was constructed. In May 1993 the production of copper telecommunication cable TPPep was launched at
the plant.
In 1995 new type of cable of TPppZP, jelly-filled with foam-skin
insulation, was developed and certified. Unlike TPPepZ type, a complete humidity
protection was provided in the new cable. Special hydrophobic compound fills an
inter-wire space as well as a space between longitudinal polyester insulation
and aluminium laminate screen. Meanwhile, foam-skin insulation provides better
electrical parameters compared to standard solid insulation.
In the
beginning of 1999 Neva Cables developed manufacturing of TPPep-NDG cable with flame-retardant
sheath. Special halogenfree polymers are supplied for the production. This type
cables are hydrophobe (water-resistant). In contrast to PVC sheathed cables (TSV
and TPV types), these cables make low smoke emission, and no toxic substances,
dangerous for people and electron equipment exposed, are released. TPPep-NDG
cables have a fire safety data sheet of "class - A", the highest category of
flame-retardancy.
In early 1999 quality management system developed at
the plant was certified in accordance with the principles of the ISO
9002 international standard by Dutch company KEMA.
Owing to the high quality appeal, Neva Cables Ltd. was acknowledged to be a
winner of the Ministry of Telecommunications competition in the nomination of
"Telecom Equipment Producers" for the year 1999.
In 2000 the company developed production of new cable types of SBPu, SBzPu for
signal networks. Signal cables are produced in accordance with the new GOST,
which contains new multicolour code system requirements, providing better
solution for the cable networks installation stage.
